Vast Majority of Voters Agree the Government is "Tired" and "Led by Events"

Keir Starmer has just completed a reshuffle of his top team, bringing some fresh blood into his party's leadership, and it looks like the government could do with following suit. Polling from YouGov revealed that an overwhelming majority of voters, some 84%, think that the government is "tired". Even 77% of 2019 Conservatives agree. Just 8% of voters would describe the government as "energetic".

Sunak's key pitch to voters is that, as 'the adults in the room', his government can offer security and credibility where Labour can't. However, Starmer's steady and consolidated leadership - still 20 points ahead in the polls - somewhat dulls this attack. If Sunak can't inspire change, as this polling suggests, it's difficult to see what he can offer voters.

The findings get even worse for the government. 88% of voters, and an only marginally smaller 86% of Conservatives, agree that they are "led by events". It doesn't bode well for a strategy of "don't let the other guy screw it up"...
