More from YouGov's post Hoon-Hewitt poll
The full tables from YouGov's poll from after the coup are now available here.
The poll reasked the questions about Brown staying or going and who should replace him with similar answers. There were also a couple of coup-specific questions though. 62% of people thought that the idea of a secret ballot was "a distraction from the serious issues that the country faces". YouGov also asked if the call for a ballot gave people more or less confidence in the government - 28% said less, 8% more, 53% no difference (mostly because people said they had no confidence in Labour anyway). A lot of these negative opinions came from people who are voting Lib Dem or Conservative anyway, the most interesting part was that 33% of Labour's own voters said it had damaged their confidence in the party.
YouGov also asked some of those much maligned (by me!) questions on how people would vote if X was leader of the party. Because these questions prompt by a particular politicians name, and normal voting intention questions don't, I have reservations over whether they can be compared to normal voting intention questions. On top of that, people are not very good at predicting how they will react to politicans they don't know much about, doing things they don't know about yet.
These questions are important though because they likely influence Labour MPs and cabinet ministers, not to mention the media narrative - so for the record it showed an 8 point Conservative lead with David Miliband as Labour leader, a 9 point Tory lead with Alan Johnson as leader, and a 13 point lead with Ed Balls as leader.
