More from the ICM/Sunday Mirror poll

The tables for the ICM poll in the Sunday Mirror are now available here, so we can see what they actually said. It was a snapshot poll of only 500 or so people, hence the lack of a voting intention question. It's worth noting that the table here don't mention any political weighting. If there wasn't any, then the make-up of the sample would have been more pro-Labour than usual and Brown's lead on the economy would be rather less notable.

As reported in the paper, 70% of people thought Gordon Brown had done well in his handling of the summit, including 20% who thought he had done very well.

The claim in the Sunday Mirror that 69% of people thought the summit would help bring the recession to an end does look rather less impressive once you see the question - it was a three point scale, asking people if it would do a lot, a little, or nothing. People tend to opt for the mid-point in questions if you give them the opportunity to do so and they did here - 16% said it would help a lot, 21% it would do nothing at all, and 53% went for the middle option.

There was also question on whether the summit made people more or less likely to vote Labour. 11% said more likely, but 13% said less likely. As I've said countless times before, I have great doubts about questions like this - I'd expect a lot of the 11% saying the G20 makes them more likely to vote Labour are Labour voters anyway, and lots of those 13% saying it's made them less likey wouldn't have voted Labour in the first place.

Finally on the G20, ICM asked about whether people preferred Brown or Cameron on the economy and found Brown back in the lead, 42% to 38%.

The poll also asked whether Britain should be prepared to contribute 2000 more troops to Afghanistan if asked to do so by NATO. Only 22% of people said yes, 72% thought we should not.

If they are working to their normal timetables, there should be a Populus poll in the Times tonight (it normally turns up around 8 o'clockish, but I haven't received any confirmation on tonight's timing).
