40% Think Boris Still Has a Political Future, Despite Privileges Committee Report
According to snap polling from Savanta, 40% of the British public think Boris's political career "is not over", despite today's excoriating report from the Privileges Committee. This can be contrasted to the 47% who think he doesn't have a future in politics.
This is not to say a political Boris comeback would be welcomed by the public. His net approval rating, according to Savanta, is still sat on -23%, whilst new polling from YouGov suggests the public is supportive of the Privileges Committee's findings.
A strong majority, 69% agree that Boris did mislead Parliament - even a majority of Conservative voters agree. Meanwhile a plurality, 43%, think he got a fair hearing from the Priviliges Committee and just 15% think his 90 day punishment was too harsh. Although these results could, partly, reflect generalised hostility to political figures; they do also suggest the public won't be too receptive of Boris's attempts to rebuff the "kangaroo court".
