Does the Express show Labour ahead in Glenrothes?
The Scottish Daily Express claims to have a poll on the Glenrothes by-election. They quote figures of Labour on 26.5% and the SNP on 23%, with the Conservatives on 4% and the Lib Dems on 2%. There is no sign of who conducted it, the only clue is that they refer to a poll 6 weeks ago as being similar.
Looking back six weeks we get this, another exclusive Sunday Express Glenrothes poll with no pollsters name attached to it. It does, however, reveal that the poll was "carried out over two days in the busy Kingdom Shopping Centre in the heart of Glenrothes". In other words, it is just a straw poll, it hasn't been properly sampled in a way that takes in people from across the constituency and will be biased towards people from Glenrothes itself, and people who are around during the day shopping.
There is a good reason why, despite the public stereotype, political polls are not actually conducted by people with clipboards in shopping centres. Dismiss.
