Three Quarters of Voters Want Licenses for Dogs

As some calls emerge in the national press for the re-introduction of licenses for dog ownership, YouGov's daily question has found strong public support for the policy. 76% of voters would support the measures, with just 17% in opposition. Support is fairly universal, and is more correlated with age than anything else. Young voters are less likely to support the measure, with 52% of 18-24 year-olds in favour, though this comes about from a higher rate of "don't know" responses rather than any staunch opposition.

Although the results might hint at some latent authoritarianism amongst the British public, it's best not to look too closely at the results. Support is unlikely to form part of any unitary ideological outlook and it's clearly a low-salience issue. That being said, it could be an area of policy to watch.
