How Media Trust Differs by Party Support

Whilst the BBC leads the pack of broadcasters generally trusted by the British public, the tabloid press languishes behind with high levels of distrust. According to YouGov, the BBC is the outlet reporting the highest share of trust, on 44%, though taking distrust into account on a net measure (+23%), it falls behind ITV and Channel 4, on +28% and +27% respectively. On this measure,  the Financial Times is the country's most trusted media publication, on +30%, whilst other broadsheets tend to see positive scores. The Mail, Mirror, Mail and Express all have low negative scores, with The Sun taking home the wooden spoon for the most distrusted news outlet. Almost 60% of voters consider The Sun untrustworthy.

The Financial Times is a rare outlet with high net support amongst both Conservative and Labour voters - with ITV also performing well amongst both. The next most trusted news sources amongst Labour voters are Channel 4, The Guardian, and The Independent. For Conservative voters, it's The Times, Telegraph and Reuters.

The publications most trusted by Labour voters, relative to Conservatives are Private Eye, the i, the New European and The Independent. Whilst The Express, Telegraph, Daily Mail and GB News all have net trust scores over 20% higher amongst Conservatives. The net trust of GB News and The Daily Mail is a staggering 46% higher amongst Conservatives than Labour voters.
